Up the Irons!
found
Felix has a drawing journal at school. Every Monday they draw about what happened over the weekend! Most of his recent entries have been about battling the "beast" with Eddie. Eddie is a main character in Iron Maiden lore, and Felix loves Iron Maiden.
Concert Magic
thought
In my experience of attending by now hundreds of concerts, I have a collection of times where the energy felt like we were all truly connected.
Like, connected to this moment in time, the experience, the way the music sounded in the venue, the way people are moving, singing out loud together, our voices merging into the air, traveling through us and between us....sometimes the next day I still feel like I'm feeling that energy. Feels magicky to me!
Choreography Notes
found
Choreography notes from 2002. Feeling happy my past self left plenty of ley lines to uninhibited creativity ✨✨✨
Of course artists like Doechii and Lady Gaga not only giving but showing us how they’re creating is what shook the memory loose of one of my own creative processes ❤️🔥
I like to think those of us feeling this kind of activation at the same time means we are connected by ley lines too.
This is how I know that art is magic!
Who am I?
about
I'm a creative turned tech builder living in Chicago's Roscoe Village. I started as a dancer and operator, moved into data, and never stopped thinking about orchestration. The difference is just whether you're moving people or processes. You can't disconnect the two.
My approach to my work has always been about finding and advocating for the truth about people in data. I'm interested in work about democratizing access to data, and decisions about the infrastructure being built to empower people with data.
I like to walk as much as possible, see as much live music and comedy as I can, and am trying to raise a kind-hearted and resilient kid.

Data Postcards - 2018
found
These are from my sister in law and her two boys…we’d been chatting about Data Postcards, which I learned about while attending Eyeo some years before. Wiki: “The Eyeo Festival was a yearly conference for artists who work with data and code.” Work paid for a few of us to attend this. It was a good investment, because of how struck I felt for the first time attending a whole conference of like-minded people who saw art and beauty in data, and vice-versa, like I did. My work is about how we can validate or challenge our intuitive sense of the world through logic and reasoning, and then communicate about how to navigate these realities through the creativity only available to our weird, gorgeous human brains.
Eyeo allowed us to commune and talk about it! Bring back Eyeo!!!
2018 "Chat Bot" for Transportation Concept
thought
Unearthed from my 2018 photo archives. I'd personally build and ship such a "chat bot" 8 years later!
How the playlist feature works
build
## the problem
Music is how I move through the world. I wanted to share
playlists on this site the way I actually listen: with
real streaming links. Every listener uses a different platform. A Spotify link is useless to someone on Tidal. So I had to solve that.
## the solution
A service called Odesli (song.link) takes any streaming
URL and returns equivalent links across every major
platform in one API call. Paste one link in, get back
Apple Music, Spotify, Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, YouTube Music,
and a universal song.link URL simultaneously.
## how it's built
The backend wraps Odesli behind a proxy endpoint at
`/api/playlist-lookup` with a 20-requests-per-minute rate
limit. There's a dedicated admin tool called Playlist
Helper at `/playlist-helper` — paste any streaming URL,
get back a pre-filled form ready to save. No manual
cross-platform searching.
Each playlist stores its links as a JSON object in the
database. Every URL is validated against an explicit
allowlist of approved hostnames before it's saved *and*
before it renders, so no unvalidated link ever appears
as a clickable button.
Spotify embed URLs need a small transform: `/playlist/`
becomes `/embed/playlist/`. A helper function does this
automatically when you paste a standard Spotify link.
## what it looks like
Service buttons render in each platform's brand color:
Spotify green, Tidal cyan, Apple Music red. There's a
site-wide toggle between brand colors and muted monochrome
depending on the mood of the garden.
## what I'd do differently
The Odesli proxy hits the external API live every time.
A short-lived cache keyed by source URL would make
Playlist Helper faster and reduce dependency on an
external service being up. It's a Redis key and two
lines of logic away. Haven't done it yet.
How I Use Descript + Claude Together to Explain Stuff
build
## the problem
Descript is where I edit video. Claude is where I think.
They used to be two separate tabs, two separate contexts,
a lot of switching. Then Descript shipped a Claude
connector and that changed.
## what the connector actually does
Claude can create a new Descript project, push a script
as a composition blueprint, iterate copy on command, and
publish. The it returns a shareable link directly in chat.
No tab switching for the script layer, fewer clicks for me, faster outcome.
## the workflow that actually works
**01 — Draft the script in chat**
Work the narrative and copy in Claude before touching
Descript. Iterate until it's right. This is the
highest-leverage part of the whole process. I like to hand-write mine, then use Claude as my editor.
**02 — Create the project via Claude**
Ask Claude to create the Descript project and push the
script as a composition. It handles the setup.
**03 — You handle the visual layer**
Clip selection, screen recordings, UI walkthroughs,
timing...do all this in Descript directly. My workflow:
SnagIt to capture, trim the clip, drag onto the
timeline. You know your product. Claude does not. Keep you as the human in the loop in places where no robot can see what your eye can see.
**04 — Iterate copy from chat**
Need to change a talking point or restructure a section?
Tell Claude. It sends the instruction to Descript's
agent without you switching tabs.
**05 — Publish when ready**
Ask Claude to publish. Get the shareable link back in
chat. Done.
## the honest edges
**can't:** Watch or analyze video frames — only the
transcript and script layer is readable.
**can't:** Generate or render AI voiceover — Descript's
Underlord does that. Claude instructs, it doesn't render.
**can't:** Make precise multi-layer timeline edits —
complex timing work is still better in the Descript
editor directly.
**can:** Read a Descript share link and pull the script
automatically.
**can:** Cross-reference Fathom meeting transcripts and
your Descript project in the same conversation — useful
for turning a recorded call into a polished video.
## what AI can't replace
The craft is still yours. Broadcasting instincts,
storytelling sense, knowing which clip lands and which
doesn't: all human gifts. Claude's connector cannot replace your ingenuity. Tools handle the plumbing, you handle the content and the edit. Together, we can prevent enshittification.
